Job Description:

Backend Developer

Company: Speedpoint

Department: Engineering

Reports to: Sr. Engineer

Location: Remote (US)

Employment Type: Full-time

Compensation: $150,000 base

About Speedpoint

The performance and specialty automotive industry powers a passionate, high-performing segment of the economy — and it deserves software built with the same purpose and craftsmanship its shops bring to every build. Speedpoint is the Shop Management Platform built by people who love this industry, for the shops that drive it — one system for CRM, quoting, scheduling, payments, and reporting. We're building for a space the rest of tech has overlooked, and we're hiring competitive team members who want to help us win.

The Role

We’re looking for a Backend Developer to help us build and scale the Speedpoint platform. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on production services, data at scale, and search infrastructure. You’ll be working on real problems with real traffic from day one, with direct input into architectural decisions as the platform grows. This is an actively open role for an immediate hire — not resume collection.

What You’ll Do

Platform Engineering

  • Build and maintain core backend services that power the Speedpoint platform

  • Write production TypeScript and Node.js code — services, APIs, integrations, and background jobs

  • Design and evolve Postgres schemas and queries that hold up at production scale

  • Work with search infrastructure (OpenSearch / Elasticsearch) to deliver fast, relevant results

Infrastructure & Tooling

  • Work with AWS services (S3, EC2, and others) to deploy and operate production services

  • Use Docker and container workflows to keep environments consistent from local through production

  • Work comfortably in the terminal — CLI tools are part of your daily workflow, not a blocker

AI-Assisted Development

  • Use Claude Code (or similar AI development tools like Cursor) extensively as part of your day-to-day work — writing, debugging, and maintaining code. You direct the AI, review the output, and own the result

Collaboration & Ownership

  • Coordinate with teammates across time zones with working hours aligned to U.S. Eastern time
  • Partner with product and operations teammates on customer-facing features and platform quality
  • Take real ownership of what you ship — from design through deployment through the bugs that surface at 4pm

What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • Strong proficiency with AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar). You should be effective at directing these tools to write, debug, and maintain production code, and you should know when the output is wrong
  • Strong experience with TypeScript and Node.js in production environments

  • Experience with Postgres or another large-scale relational database — schema design, query optimization, and operating under real load

  • Comfortable working in U.S. Eastern time business hours

  • Clear communicator who can explain technical tradeoffs to both engineers and non-engineers

  • Demonstrates consistent work ethic and ownership

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch at scale

  • Experience with AWS services (S3, EC2, and others)

  • Experience with Docker or similar container technologies

  • Comfort with CLI tools and terminal-based workflows

  • Experience with high-volume data, catalog, or e-commerce systems

  • Interest in or familiarity with the automotive/performance industry

  • Startup experience or comfort in a fast-paced environment

What Success Looks Like

  • Features ship on cadence and hold up under production load

  • Search and data systems stay fast and reliable as the platform scales

  • Architecture decisions get better over time as the platform matures

  • Teammates trust that what you ship works and is maintainable

  • Continuous improvement in code quality, tooling, and operational reliability

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $150,000

  • Medical: Employer-paid medical coverage

  • Dental & Vision: Available

  • Work Environment: Fully remote (US), Eastern time business hours.

Low-meeting culture so you can focus on building.

  • Growth: Direct access to leadership and opportunity to grow with a fast-moving company

How to Apply

This is an actively open role for an immediate hire — we review every application. Apply through our Manatal careers portal or email your resume to [email protected]. To help us separate real applicants from mass-apply bots, please include a short note describing a production system you’ve built or significantly improved — what it did, what you owned, and what you’d do differently next time.
